Hi all, i have an old EPYX FASTLOAD cart, missing the 14 pin logic chip, resistor, and capacitor. does anyone know the part number of the chip and the values of the other parts. if you dont know how to read a resistor, then give me the colors please. i think the cap is a 0.047mf 16v electro but i am not sure. if you have a schematic diagram that would be good aswell. if you can help, please do........ thanks B.B. |

Hi, According to a sketch I found: * The capacitor should be 47pF. * The resistor should be 3.3K. * Logic chip used is an 74LS109 (Dual J-K Flip-Flop w. preset and clear). Here's the sketch: http://unusedino.de/ec64/technical/formats/wrpspeed.jpg Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the info, but that's a warp speed cart not epyx fastload. Fastload uses a: 1 * 27c64 Eprom (Programmed of course) 1 * 14 pin logic chip 1 * resistor 1 * electrolytic capacitor. no other componants. thanks for trying though. B.B. |

Hi, First of all my electronics eperience is not present My OHM meter says the resistor R1 is 2.678 kOhm, but when i measure the other way around i get 2.629 kOhm. The colors as far as i can tell are RED BROWNISH RED then RED again (or the other way around depending on how you interpretate what the beginning is. The IC is a SN7407N with gap pointing towards the resistor. The blue thinngy has markings: 474 MSE (text pointing towards the SN ic) The eprom is a 2764, gap towards the SN chip. Hope this helps, had to open up my cartridge, but it allready had a chip of the casing, so i didn't mind too much |

THE 2764 EPROM IS THE SOFTWARE CHIP THAT HOLDS THE CODE TO DO IT'S MAGIC. IF THE RESISTOR IS RED,RED,RED IT'S A 2K2 OHM (STANDARD VALUE) THE CAPACITOR 474 NUMBER MEANS IT'S A 0.47 MICROFARAD CAP THE 14 PIN CHIP IS A 7407 HEX BUFFER WITH HIGH VOLTAGE OPEN COLLECTOR OUTPUTS. THIS CHIP IS USED BY THE FASTLOAD CART TO MAKE IT'SELF INVISIBLE TO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM THROUGH SOFTWARE CONTROL OF THE I/01 AND I/02 AND THE EXROM CONTROL LINES ON THE CART PORT. THIS ALLOWS YOU TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE $8000 TO $9FFF MEMORY AREA FOR YOUR OWN PROGRAMS. I HAVE HUNTED THE INTERNET FOR A FEW WEEKS FOR INFO ON THE FASTLOAD CART AND FOUND NOTHING OF ANY HELP AT ALL. THERE IS AT LEAST SOME INFO FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT IT. B.B. |

There are FOUR colors on the resistor. Small stripe RED, Small stripe LIGHT BROWNISH, Small stripe RED and finally a slightly wider RED stripe. So, the 2nd (or 3rd depending on what the first stripe is, i don't know) is a LIGHT BROWNISH color. Guessing that my OHM meter does not lie, it is probably a 2.6 kOHM resistor (do they exist?) bitblaster66 wrote: IF THE RESISTOR IS RED,RED,RED IT'S A 2K2 OHM (STANDARD VALUE)

IS ANYONE ABLE TO TAKE A PHOTO OF THE EPYX FASTLOAD BOARD AND POST IT UP. I WANT TO SEE THIS RESISTOR AND THE CAPACITOR. IT COULD BE 2K1 OHM IF I'TS RED BROWN RED RED OR COULD BE 220 OHM IF IT'S RED RED BROWN RED LAST COLOR BEING RED MEANS IT'S A 2% TOLERANCE. THE BEST WAY TO METER A RESISTOR IS TO TAKE ONE END OFF THE BOARD SO IT IS FREE AND CLEAR OF ANY OTHER COMPONENTS. AS ONE END GOES TO 5 VOLT RAIL AND IC CHIPS, AND THE OTHER GOES TO PIN 22 ON THE EPROM AND THE 7407 CHIP OUTPUTS ON PINS 2 AND 12. THANKS..... B.B. |

Darn, it is purple not brown. I guess the light changed the perception of the color. Lookin at it at daylight, the color is purple. I can't get my camera to focus, so a picture isn't possible. < RED PURPLE RED RED ] (i noticed that the left side was a bit pointy, where as the right side is more flat, and the flat side has the wider RED stripe). Taking a picture is a bit of a problem, i can't get my camera to focus correctly. But can you do with this info ? bitblaster66 wrote: IS ANYONE ABLE TO TAKE A PHOTO OF THE EPYX FASTLOAD BOARD AND POST IT UP.
I WANT TO SEE THIS RESISTOR AND THE CAPACITOR. IF YOU CAN'T POST THE PICS THEN EMAIL THEM TO ME AT EALESA@BIGPOND.COM IT COULD BE 2K1 OHM IF I'TS RED BROWN RED RED OR COULD BE 220 OHM IF IT'S RED RED BROWN RED LAST COLOR BEING RED MEANS IT'S A 2% TOLERANCE. WELL RED PURPLE RED RED MAKES SENCE, ITS A 2K7 OHM RESISTOR. AND THIS IS A STANDARD VALUE. THATS WHY YOU WERE GETTING A 2K6??? VALUE READING WHEN YOU READ IT WITH YOUR MULTIMETER. THE CAPACITOR WHAT TYPE IS IT. I KNOW THE VALUE FROM THE NUMBERS YOU GAVE EARLIER, BUT THE STYLE I WANT TO KNOW. IS IT AN ELECTROLYTIC ( TUBULAR LOOKING WITH 2 WIRES OUT ONE END ) IF SO, WHICH PIN IS MARKED WITH A ARROW OR A MINUS SIGN. IF IT'S A TANTALUM( LOOKS LIKE A BLOB OF PAINT WITH NUMBERS AND A MARKER ON THE POSITIVE LEG ) OR IS IT SOMETHING ELSE. THANKS TO YOUR HELP WITH THE CHIP NUMBER I HAVE DRAWN A SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM OF 7407 AREA OF THE CART AND CAN NOW SEE HOW THE HIDDEN CART FEATURE WORKS NOW, I JUST HAVE TO DO THE REST AND PUT INTO MY PROTEL SCHEMATIC PROGRAM. YOUR CIRCUIT BOARD IS DIFFERENT A LITTLE FROM MINE. MINE USED TO HAVE AN ELECTROLYTIC CAP, NOT A MONOLYTHIC LIKE YOURS. IF POSSIBLE CAN I HAVE A FULL PHOTO OF BOTH SIDES OF THE BOARD. TO COMPARE YOURS TO MINE.... THE WIRING SHOULD BE THE SAME, I JUST WANT TO SEE WHAT OTHER DIFFERENCES THERE MIGHT BE. B.B. |

Well, If you don't mind, i will wait for daylight to get 2 quality pictures from both sides. I wouldn't want to have any unexplaineble colors Anyway, i'm allways happy to help out..... btw, if you wish i can have the EPROM read out, and mail you the BIN file. I do own an eprom programmer Besides that, i would really like to apologise for the wrong color reading. It was an sincerely unintended mistake on my part. I thought the color was light brown (normal artificial lighting), and had to use real sun-light to get it right in the end.... learning curve on my side. With kind regards, (PS: it's now 19:31 PM in The Netherlands (I dont even know what that means, besides the material used to make the component Quote: MINE USED TO HAVE AN ELECTROLYTIC CAP, NOT A MONOLYTHIC LIKE YOURS )

CANT WAIT FOR THE PHOTO'S. I WILL USE THEM WITH MY SCHEMATICS AND PCB LAYOUTS. I WILL BE MAKING A ZIP FILE WITH EVERY THING IN IT. PC BOARD, SCHEMATICS, PHOTO'S, ( NOT SURE ABOUT PUTTING A ROM WITH THE ZIP FILE.(COPYRIGHT ISSUES) THANKS FOR THE OFFER BUT I WONT NEED THE ROM, AS I HAVE MY OWN AS WELL THE INTERNET HAS MANY SITES WITH THEM ALL READY. B.B. SO I MIGHT BE GONE FOR A WEEK OR SO, WHILE I SETUP MY NEW PLACE AND GET THE INTERNET SETUP AGAIN. |
